Can an '87 Turbo ignition coil function on a 92 900S? Posted by StoicBlue87 [Email] (#1829) [Profile/Gallery] (more from StoicBlue87) on Thu, 11 Aug 2022 22:56:14 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I'm trying to avoid the throw-new-parts diagnostics method for a condition my 92 900S is currently suffering: it stumbles and hesitates very slightly upon acceleration, except during the first 30-60 warm-up seconds upon starting in the morning.
I've been combing the archives here for an answer to this interchange question. My 87 turbo runs just great and for a quick test, I'd like to swap in the 87 coil to see if the problem originates in the 92 coil.
I've been seeing some comments here in the past few months about some original coils suffering issues via the years and hours accumulation and thus I'm wondering if I can swap in a functioning (but not exactly matching) alternative.
I'm pretty sure the problem is ignition related as I've replaced the fuel-pump recently and all the other ignition parts have been checked with alternates; I thought I had found the problem in the spring with a cracked spark plug but in replacing that, the issue continues. I also tried a new ignition control module; problem persists.
You can rev the engine without issue when parked but the problem presents when driving around usually at city-traffic speeds.
As long as I carefully feather the acceleration and increase speed very smoothly and slowly, the car is drive-able. It almost makes me an environmentally-conscientious driver with the needed driving style.
Thanks for any recommendations.
