Reporting for duty.
Ordered 3 new hoses for my power steering system. 1 was leaky, the other two were on sale. I replaced the power side (pump to rack), the return (rack to reservoir) and feed line (reservoir to pump).
Step 1. Jack car up.
Step 2. Crawl under with a catch pan and undo the lower hose at the rack. I think it's a 5/8th flare wrench that I used. let it drain into a bucket. The best way to do this is to use stubby wrenches and go in from the front side of the rack. Best just jack it up and crawl under so your head is near the exhaust pipe and work from there.
Step 3. Loosen the other line into the rack. This one was an 18mm. I could not get my full size 18mm in there and only have SAE flares for doing brakes, so I used a hack saw and now had a short-ish 18mm. Drain into bucket.
Step 4. Remove feed line for PS pump. Mine was a 7mm hose clamp I used a regular 1/4in ratchet and this was very easy.
Step 5. Remove reservoir and clean up. Two 10mm bolts attach it. It pulls back. There are probably lose hose clamps on there. Remove/loosen hose clamps on the two hoses and carefully CAREFULLY loosen the hoses off. The lines are brittle. The feed to pump line is easy but the return line from the rack can be harder
Step 6. Remove old lines, carefully noting how they align in relationship to the other stuff in the area.
Step 7. Start putting stuff back in and mess up and break the hose connection on the reservoir Drink a beer and call it a night
Will report the rest this weekend when I pickup my replacement reservoir.
PS: reservoir is a silly french word. I think we should just call it a tank!
