Good idea. I replaced mine w/ a Blaupunkt. Once you pull the radio out, you'll find there are two connectors. One for power, another for the speakers.
Speaker wires
left front-brown(+)green(-) at connector # 2&1
left rear-brown/violet(+)green/violet(-) at connector #6&5
right front-red(+)blue(-) at connector #3&4
right rear-red/violet(+)blue/violet(-) at connector #7&8
Power wires
power antenna-green at connector #6
battery-grey at connector #1
ignition switch-red at connector #4
instrument panel rheostat-blue/violet at connector #8
There are three more wires at connectors #5,9&10 for ground.
If I remember correctly, only #6,1&4 are required if you used a replacement radio. You definitely don't need to connect #8. You may want to connect the grounding wire for your new radio to any one of #5,9 or 10.
No more radio codes.
