SUre it will but you may end up with no self-centering of the 3-4 gate or spring guided return to neutral from others. Up through partway in M86, the centering mechanism is in the cabin under the selector shaft. Later gearboxes (GM 45X 008 up) have it in the trans. You can put the 85 selector shaft in the 87 though. Also a possibility that the gearbox in the 85 is from a later car. Check the # on the top of the primary case.
