I've had several cars with rear wipers to include a Ford Probe GTS, a Mitsubishi Eclipse GS and even a Subaru Wagon 4wd. I really miss it! They all worked great and living in North Central Wisconsin, we get our share of rain and especially snow. There is nothing worse than having a layer of slush on the rear window in the winter and driving in town where there is no wind to blow it off. The rear defrost works until it all slides off the roof down to the spoiler and builds up, then I'm SOL. Even on the highway if the car is warm the snow still sticks to the hatch glass and never really gets clear.
I also like it for the nighttime rear vision when it's raining, but I guess if you've never had a wiper in back you don't know what you're missing.
At one time a guy told me he was trying to adapt a wiper from a Porsche 944 but I never did find out if he was successful.
