I've been going through the same sort of delema but with my Jeep. I want to install rocker skids that attach directly to the body but am have a difficult time putting a drill to a 3yr old body. Now that I have some first hand experience with Por-15 all I have to do now is convince myself to drop the $200+ for the skids. I experimented on the SPG. It has the usual wheel arch rot on one fender. I kocked the loose rust of and treated it only with Por-15 metal etcher and after 8 months there has been no change on the bare metal. The paint is tough too. I painted the drive shafts on the Jeep and a wee bit got into the threads of a U-joint bolt hole. I had to use a tap to get it out because I snapped a wrench trying to install the bolt.
