I pulled in the driveway and made the decision that the headliner had to come out, I'd been comtemplating this for weeks. This was a car that I had recently bought with a severly sagging headliner. I knew that the car at one time had an alarm system installed, but the best that I could tell it was all gone, there was a switch to the right of the key, that seemed to do nothing. While I was in the back seat removing pull bars, seatbelt brackets etc, I pulled the rear ashtray. There I found another switch, which I had to play with, then forgot about it. The rest of the headliner removal went well. The car sat there till the next weekend, when I needed it moved to get the trailer out the back yard. It wouldn't start, the engine turned over great, there was no spark at the plugs, the fuel pump didn't run. The pump ran if the relay was bypassed, no power at the distributer, no power at the ignition module, I kept thinking; this has to be something simple, it was fine last weekend. Well it was time to start tracing circuits; there was juice at the fuel pump and ECU relays, but not at the wires that triggered them. No continuity from the ignition switch to the test connector in the fuse box; pulled the bulkhead connector nothing there either, pulled the console and lower dashpad, still nothing, pulled the rest of the center console, there sure seemed to be a lot of extra wires here, stuff spliced into the wires I was used to seeing. I am still thinking; this has to be something simple, then I remember the switch under the rear ashtray. After reconnecting the bulkhead connector, flipping the switch, it starts right up. That was a wasted half day, doing one of my most unfavorite things, chasing electrical circuits. Yep, it sure was something simple. At least I got that annoying door open buzzer disconnected for good.
