As far as changing the rheostat goes, peice of cake. :o) I did mine a month or so ago, took me about 10 or 15 minutes. The dashboard nor the facia panel needs to come out. Simply get another rheostat (recommend a junk yard), then pull the knob off your old rheostat. Then you can unscrew the thin nut that screws onto the rheostat and holds it against the facia panel. Once this is off, the old rheostat pulls off. Unplug the wires (2 of them, if I remember right), and remember which one goes where. Take your new rheostat, pull off the knob, plug in the wires, slide it into the facia panel, tighten the nut onto it, and push on the knob. Easy as that. :o)
Tom, as far as removing the kick panel, there are also 2 screws that you must remove from INSIDE the engine compartment. There is one on each side of the car, near the rear of the fenders, right in front of the door hinges. On the passengers side it is down underneath the vaccuum resevoir behind the power steering resevoir. It's about halfway down the firewall. The drivers side is in the same place, back behind the fuse box. Good luck!
Cheers,
Jake
