I dropped my car at Spreen's this morning, and got an estimate on the work they're looking at. $240 parts/labor for the front end seal, $50 for the o-ring seal and $320 parts/labor for the front pipe, which seems excessive. No quote on the windshield wipers; apparently they plugged in a new fuse and they worked, whereas the fuse blew when I tried doing the same. I didn't ask the service guy whether or not that included the catalytic converter (which I was trying not to have to replace at this point.

I told them to go ahead and do the seals and the wipers, and to leave the exhaust pipe as is.

My question is: what's the going rate for a catalytic converter, given that my memory of that particular segment of the exhaust system showed the pipe and cat as a single unit.

If possible, I'd like to beat the dealer price and have someone cheaper do this work since the replacement and bolting would mostly be grunt stuff. Also, when the exhaust was off the car in September, I noticed that the heat shield for the cat was pretty much shot. Any ideas regarding a replacement?
