Hi John --
First, I've bought from Abbott and had good results, they seem competent to me. And, as we say here, I'm not a rocket scientist. However, I don't think the boost guage has anything to do with it. Even a poorly fit boost gauge would just cause bad running at idle and possibly a richer running car at boost (poorly fitting meaning air is getting past the gauge and fittings instead of into the cylinder head). I've never heard of adjusting/tuning a car because someone installed a boost gauge -- the boost gauge is installed as a tuning tool itself. Also, ff there were a large enough leak in the gauge fittings such that the fuel system couldn't compensate for it, as detected by the oxygen sensor, the thing wouldn't idle when warm. Same with the induction (by which I assume you are only referring to the air filter intake part). Was it running hot and/or low on coolant and you ignored it? Was it running excessive boost? A good, independent machine shop that does heads from turbo cars should be able to look at the head and crack and make an educated guess as to the cause. I don't expect mechanics to do an autopsy and always come up with an exact cause of death but in this case it appears there is some guessing going on. Ten months life for a professionally rebuilt head seems a bit short -- have you talked compromise at all?
