The auto isn't less "reliable" in a day-to-day driving type sense. Many who have then think they are excelent transmissions. The problem is longevity. They tend to die right around the 100k mark. Some go a lot further and some don't even last that long. Frequent fluid changes and not abusing them seem to help. They also occasionally have other maladies such as valve body issues and governor seals, but they are cheap and easy to fix, assuming you find someone familiar with the tranny. You also only get the standard 200hp engine in the auto aero. Your best bet might be to find a low mileage auto or one with a recently replaced tranny and then maintain it religously.
