Hi,
I had the A/C converted to R134A on my wifes '89 9000cd today. When I drove away from the garage that did the conversion, the air felt about as cool as when it had the R12. When I got home and shut the engine off, I noticed that the radiator fan would not turn off. So I temporarily disconnected the switch that connects to the drier to kill the radiator fan. An hour later the M contact of the switch was still closed. I proceeded to hook up my A/C guages to the sytem and noticed that the low side was at 95psi and the high side was at 155psi after an hour with the engine off. I believe the M switch opens at 11bar which suggests that the switch is ok but the high side pressure is too high. I then turned on the engine with the A/C on, the pressure went to 255psi on the High side and 25psi on the low side, with the outside temperature at about 90deg F.
I also noticed that the low pressure hose and pipe that goes into the compressor was swetting all the from the aquarium to where it goes into the compressor. My question is does it sound like it was was overcharged? or is this a problem with the conversion?
Or is there a blockage? I was under the impression that with the A/C off the high side and low side would eventually even out at about 100PSI or so.
Also, when they do the conversion are they not suppose to change all the O rings? if I look at the two connections to the Compressor it does not look like the nuts were removed.
Sorry for the long post. Any feedback would be appreciated.
TIA, Tony
