Something you may want to consider if you want to completely drain all the fluid from the transmission in one step.
Determine the total amount of fluid the transmission takes. (Include the converter)
1) Remove the bottom cover and filter to drain the fluid in the transmission.
2) Clean magnet and install a new filter.
3) Put in the same amount of new fluid that you had removed. Remaining fluid = total - what you drained.
4)Disconnect the hose that goes from the transmission to the oil cooler and stick it into a container to capture the rest.
5) While someone pours new fluid into the transmission, start the car and stop it when you have put in the remaining fluid.
6) Reconnect the hose and top off as needed.
Like you, I bought a 2L turbo Automatic that had 99K miles and now has 166K miles with no problems.
At the time, an automatic mechanic that I personaly knew, reccomended that I use 1 quart synthetic and the rest a good quality non-synthetic.
I change the transmission fluid once a year. I think the other key is to not abuse it.
Good luck
