It's been a while since my last post (listed below). I'd like to revise my message a little bit. The popping/clunking sound is a clunking that happens when I turn my wheel right or left. It happens when I'm in motion, as well when I turn the wheel in a parked position. (I'm going to try to record the sound using my audio equipment. If I can do this, I'll post it online as an mp3 and post the link here.)

Could this be a power steering issue? I haven't had a chance to flush my power steering fluid yet. Could it be tied in to this? What does the car sound like/do when the power steering fluid is past the "change date?"

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

- - - - - UPDATE - - - - -

Okay, I did some inspecting over the last couple days. The 9000's CV boots are fine. There are no holes, cracks, tears, etc., to be found. I'm *assuuming* that the innards of the CV joints are fine as well.

The tie rods seem to be fine. I put the car up on a jack and checked for horizontal and vertical slippage. There was none.

Lastly, I popped the hood, stood on the frame just above the headlight assembly and bounced for a little while. There were no sounds heard from the struts.

So now I'm back to square one. One thing I'm curious about is the power steering fluid. The stuff in my car is caramel color. Is that normal? Also, I'm curious if anyone knows about chasis lubrication (i.e. grease) that is necessary on Saabs. I doubt that it is, but it's an idea that my dad had. (I was at his place doing the work on my car as my landlord won't allow auto work in the parking lot.)

Thanks in advance for all your help.

- - - - - ORIGINAL MESSAGE - - - - -

Hi all. Long time reader, first time poster. I've got a '93 9000 CS with 110,000 miles. It has recently started popping/clunking on corners and bumps, and it sounds like its focused in the front left. It seems to occur more when the wheels are being turned. I'm planning on making this a DIY project, but I'd like some ideas of where to start. Any ideas?
