Beware the SLUDGE!!!! $$$$

Well, I finally got my car into the shop for the diagnosis of the knocking noise that started after an oil change. (94 Aero) Apparently, sludge had built up in the engine which caused two “scuffed pistons,” as my mechanic described to me. 3 weeks later, and a bill that will create the need for a second mortgage, the car is repaired and I can pick it up today. They replaced two pistons and basically went through the whole engine, cleaning and replacing things that needed to be. I think they replaced some springs too. The weird thing is, It took so long because he had a 900 (I think) in there before me with the same problem, but the guy had lost oil pressure and the engine seized. Same problem, sludge! And, he informed me yesterday that after my car leaves a 97 9000 is there waiting with the same sludge buildup problem. I asked if this was common and he said in the last 6-9 months he has done a bunch of them. Blamed it on the oil people are using and the lack of oil changes. Said that these cars run hot and they are putting a “turbo oil” in all the turbos now. This baby better be great for miles and miles or my wife will make me sell the old girl!
