Heater mixer flap shaft broken...

Hey everyone. I finally decided to investigate the SuperSaab's ('90 9kT) lack of heat control yesterday and after removing the blower motor assembly found that the shaft that the flap mounts on is broken about 1cm from where it enters the duct. So, I guess now I need to fix it.
I have read about an $8 fix for the arm being broken, but from what I have read it only works if the arm is broken near the tip, not if the shaft itself is broken. The dealer priced me a new flap (9624 321) at about $45, but this seems a bit expensive. Are there better sources for this type of thing? I guess the final option would be to epoxy things back together, but I don't really want to do this since I would rather it not break again (even though it was surprisingly easy to take out).
Ok, let me know. Good news is the heater core looks very nice, so I am not going to have to replace that.
