CPS, crank position sensor, crank sensor... whatever Posted by Everett [Email] ![]() ![]() |
I just went through the task of changing one of these on my 92 9k and I just have a word of advise for anyone who thinks this is their problem. It's really not bad if you buy the rebuild kit from eeuroparts.com. The sensor kit is only $60 and with a little soldering and splicing you have yourself a cable that I've heard can sell for close to $300! The swap out wasn't terrible either, just a little tough to get to the connector under the manifold and a pain to remove the crank pulley. So to summarize all the posts I read, suspect the CPS if:
- No Tach bounce when cranking
- Sudden engine stop / stopping and then cranking with no spark or fuel
- If engine starts intermittantly but runs great when it starts
- No hint of anything going bad, like loss of power or poor performance that gradually gets worse
Thanks to anyone who posted about this problem in the past, you saved me a lot of troubleshooting time!
