Hello Todd,
Re your questions about the Hella lights:
1. I mistakenly stated that I had the Hella FF100 driving lights, when I actually have the FF200 driving lights on my car.
2. Mounting the lights was fairly easy. You would need to do the following:
a. Remove the front grill; this will give you sufficient access to the
back of the bumper, which you will mount the mounting brackets to.
b. Look down behind the bumper and you will see a number of torx
screws fastened to the back side of the bumper. Pick out where on
the back side of the bumper that you want to mount the light brackets
and remove the torx screws from that area of the back side of the
bumper.
c. You can obtain a "Stanley" brand metal "L" shaped bracket (I think
that I used the 2 inch sized ones)at your local Home Depot. Then,
after removing the appropriate torx screws, attach the L shaped
bracket to the bumper with the torx screw.
d. Note that in order for the L shaped bracket to be able to be mounted
vertically from the torx screw, you will have to trim off a small
rectangular piece of the plastic bumper cover from where the L
bracket will rise up vertically from its mounting screw. By trimming
off this small piece of the plastic bumper cover, the L bracket will
have sufficient clearance to be mounted vertically.
e. Note that you may have to bend the part of the L bracket that
extends forward from the bumper downward a bit so that you will have
adequate clearance to be able to refit the front grill onto the car.
Using the above method, you would not have to use any type of backing plate
to mount the lights, only the L bracket purchased at any hardware store. You would also not have any problem gaining access to the inside of the bumper after the grill is removed.
Re your question as to the differences between the Hella FF100, FF200 and FF300 lights. Go to http://www.Hellausa.com, click on performance lighting, click on FF Series. You will see that the FF100 and FF300 are oval shaped lights, with the FF300 being slightly larger in size. The FF200 is a round shaped light. The output of each of the lights is similar in that they all use an H3 55 watt bulb, and they are available in either a fog light or a driving light configuration.
The lighting kit that comes with the lights from Hella has very good directions, and is very complete. The biggest issues in doing the installation was 1)tapping into the high beam light wire going into your existing headlights (so the driving light would go on only when the high beams are used); and 2) figuring out where to have the wire for the control switch enter into the passenger compartment (from under the hood)of your car (I would up drilling a hole just in front of the drivers door to run the wire through).
