I went to Sears to get it done, and I have to admit they did an excellent job mounting & balancing my Continental ExtremeContacts (225/50R16), as well as centering my steering wheel. I've had this work done before by tire shops, and I always have had to bring back the car because something was not done correctly.
Anyway, the camber on both sides is out of range. I installed a camber kit about a year ago (bolts that replace the bottom oem bolts on both struts and have a cam that moves the strut assembly positive and/or negative by 1.0 degrees). At that time, they were able to get the camber in range (I had hit a curb pretty hard, causing the misalignment in the first place). This time, they set the bolt-cams at the maximum adjustment, and it is still out of range.
I have not done anything to the suspension in between these two alignments. The only thing that happened was about 3 months ago when I discovered the two bolts that hold the subframe to the front cross-member on the pass. side had "fallen" out. Long story, and I'm still trying to figure out where they went (must be due to when I replaced the engine mounts which necessitated lowering the subframe, so maybe the bolts worked themselves out over time after I had tightened them), but it caused the car to sag on that side, which in turn ripped my cv-boot as well. I replaced the bolts and the boot, and now the car cannot be aligned.
They are stating it might be bent suspension parts. What could be bent? Unless the part(s) bent from driving the car while it was sagging, I don't know what else could have a problem. Replaced items one year ago: sway bar chassis bushings, end-links and all related bushings, control-arm bushings -- all with poly (except rubber chassis ones).
Anything to look for? Any ideas? Should I go for another alignment somewhere else (no charge for this one since they couldn't do it)?
OEM Range: -1.2 to -0.2
At this alignment:
Right: was -2.2, is -1.6
Left : was -0.1, is -0.1
At last alignment:
Right: was -1.2, is -0.9
Left : was -1.0, is -1.0
The reason for the "was" large number on the right side this time was due to the fact that I had to remove the hub-to-strut connection to replace the cv-boot.
TIA
Joe
