1) Plain old contact cement. Easy to use, and if there is a little left over around the edge when you are finished, you can clean it off with thinner. I used contact cement to glue down strips of non skid matting on the outside decks of my boat 20 years ago (and a trip across the Pacific) and they haven't come up yet.
2) My personal first choice: Just remove the wood, or get another (plain) cubby lid from junk yard. My '98 CSE came from the factory plain black.
