Sean, this has happened to me on two of my Sabb 9k's. It may be that your engine is in limp home mode, which can be caused by any number of reasons. The first time was on my '92 9000t with traction control. Evidently one of the traction control valves was going, creating a vacuum problem. It only cost me about $30 to have the valve replaced at a local Saab dealer. The second time happened on my '91 9000t. One day I was merging onto a highway and really letting the turbo fly, when all of a sudden the same thing happened to me as happened to you. The check engine light came on and the car started running horribly. After a few days of thinking I probably blew the engine, I decided to open the hood and look around. It turns out that a hose that connects directly to the engine had popped out. It was a little difficult to locate, it is on the back side of the engine near the top. I simply pushed it back in and the problem was solved. Unfortunately it kept happening so I replaced the rubber bushing that the hose fits into and it hasn't happened since. I am by no means a mechanic and am just speaking from experience, but it sounds like this may be your problem.
