Great bulletin board!
I have a '92 9000 Turbo 5-speed with 176,000 kilometers (110,000 miles) and like it enough to want to "overhaul" it for another similar stretch. What do you think I should consider?
So far: upgraded shifter linkage, soldered headlight relay (aha, so that was the problem! THANK-YOU, postees to BB!), replaced clutch slave and master cylinders, SRS electronics and heater core (warranty), front brake discs, serpentine belt and pulleys, AC compressor, ACC control unit (old one still good, possibly), shocks all around, muffler.
I'm pretty sure I currently need to:
replace right front motor mount and torque link bushings (bit of slop here, e.g. quite a bit of shifter movement with acceleration). Suggestions?
I am particularly wondering about:
1)timing chain and tensioner... any suggestions on checking it?
2)running synthetic oil. Pros, cons?
3)any tips concerning "predictable" failures with this year/model, and prevention, also simple upgrades.
4)tire suggesions? Have 16" alloys for summer, 15" steels for winter. It's Canada, eh? Want better mileage from summer tires, have used Pirelli P7000's, and currently Falkens (noisy!). Winters must stick, don't care about wear or noise.
5)incidentally, how easy is it to install CD changer? (Clarion stock system)
P.S. I drive hard but don't abuse the machine, do a fair bit of highway driving.
Thanks, everyody! -Simon-
