Timing chain removal

I'm rolling in a new timing chain, but can't seem to put my hands on the tool that pushes the pin out of the master link on the old chain. This is the one shown on Townsend's site under service bulletins. Apparently, my only source is Snap-on on one of those guys that provide tools to mechanics, since none of my hardware or automotive stores carry it.
My question is, can I just file the flange off, being VERY careful to not get particles into the head, and then on reassemble, tap the new pin lightly to flange it out?
Any direction would be appreciated.
