1992 Saab 9000 CD
2.3l V4 Turbo
5-speed Transmission

Recently the temperature here in NY(USA) dropped to the freezing point, unluckily for me, my car did not appreciate it.

Now when I leave my house in the morning when its cold the car acts a bit sluggish but seems to respond normally. Once it comes time for me to merge onto the highway however the car misfires quite badly. It seems to happen worst when in high revs in 3rd gear. Once I get up to speed and get into 5th gear the car tends to feel sluggish but only a little bit.

For instance, This morning I was merging onto the highway and I was in 3rd and hit the gas and the car accelerated while I could feel the engine coughing and bucking. I was able to get to 70mph in a fiar amount of time but nowhere near the amount of time I should have been able to. Once I was up to speed I was driving at about 70 and now and then the car would seem to lose power and I would give it a bit more gas and it wouldnt react for a little and you can hear the car buckling and then all of a sudden the car seems to regain its composure and the car takes off...After about 5 minutes of driving the car drives fine with no signs of struggle. This problem is definitely related to temperature as it seems to only happen on cold mornings. The only thing I can think of is a vacumn leak possible somewhere behind the engine where after 5 minutes the air becomes warm and stays warm.

In addition my car will always overcool itself, While parked the car will heat up normally as if nothing was wrong, but once the car gets on the highway the needle refuses to move anywhere farther than a few millimeters above the blue. Obviously with this the case im not getting very good heat out of the car unless I let it warm up in the morning for a few minutes and then take it out. I recently got an oil change and payed extra for a coolant flush, thier system waits for the thermostat to open before the system flushes out the old fluid and puts in the new fluid. They had to wait the expected amount of time for the thermostat to open which leads me to believe the thermostat is functioning correctly.

Ive replaced the plugs today and I found something very promising, I was leaning back and looking at the back of the engine when I noticed a plug, with no wire attached to it. If you look at the back of the engine and practically right next to the oil level stick holder there are two sensors, one had the plug on it, one did not(the lower one did not)(single wire, single clip on the sensor) I also found a wire hanging out back there which appeared to be sheared off...Im curious what that sensor is. Is that the engine temperature sensor? With that disconnected could that cause the problem ive described? any help would greatly be appreciated. If noone knows what it is ill attempt to get a picture.

Thanks,
Aaron R.
