Laura- I did not see you have resolved your problem, so there is another possibility, if it was not coupler. Though the procedure is slightly different for a 93 (mine is 95 aero), there is a shift linkage adjustment that can be done. The Haynes manual spells it out clearly. IT involves placing your car in a particular gear, removing the shift boot , and lining up the shift rods . Though it sounded complicated, it really was not, and I solved my problem, which resembled yours exactly. Loosening and tightening the coupler can actually move the shift rods out of their proper alignment, causing shifting woes, with both engaging (and in particular) disengaging gears. - good luck- Tom S
