I like the wet-weather performance of the Assurance and think they'd be great on Mt Shasta. Recently drove a couple of hundred interstate/country road miles in heavy rain and the tires felt fine. Good in dry weather too. Very comfortable around town, and also on the highway as fast as I'm prepared to go (not over 85, and normally more like 70). I've only got about 4k on them, so can't speak to long-term performance, but tirerack reviews are good.

You'd think that with Kumhos on the other 2 cars I'd be able to give you a good comparison, but I really can't because the 3 cars are so different. The 1990 has a much harsher ride generally than the CSE, and the 9-5 is different again. That said, the Kumhos seem quiet and grippy. Again, haven't had them very long and don't drive them very hard.

Long and short is I think you'd be ok with either. I marginally prefer the Assurance, but then again I marginally prefer the CSE to the other cars generally. If you need a tie-breaker, the Kumhos are cheaper.

For years I put MXV4s on my Saabs because they were OEM and "the best". They never lasted long and didn't feel special but I bought them because I wanted "good tires". I switched to the Goodyears and Kumhos after reading tirerack and this board. So far I'm very glad I did; both brands when new feel just as good as the MXV4s did when new, if not better.

As somebody else said, people seem to be willing to go on talking about tires forever.
