First off: Mark, do not read further than this paragraph or click the link below, it will only cause you pain. And may I add, you are lucky to have walked away from that wreck my friend. If you had been driving most anything else ... I shudder to think of the possibilities.
Short (but sweet) Story of the trip:
After arranging to purchase the seats from Mark's recently totaled Aero, I drove 293 miles over to Vermont this morning from my home in Maine with a good friend, and a van full of tools. Got there are 11am after an easy drive and got to work. The guy that Mark sold the wreck to said that on top of the seats, I could take anything and everything I wanted on the interior except for the stereo head unit, cd unit (damn), gauges, steering wheel, center console and shift knob & boot, all of which were spoken for. Everything else was mine for the taking at a total price of $500. I paid him, he left and we got to work! It took two hours and forty-five minutes, but when done we had removed and put in the van:
front & rear seats (SWEET condition!)
dash top
dash speakers and grills
dash bezel
all dash switches and controls
ACC unit
clock/trip computer unit
all front and rear floor carpet and panels
A & B pillar covers
4 door panels
door speakers
headliner
glass sunroof with motor and relay
rearview mirror with mount and light unit
rear speakers
antenna mast/motor assembly with bracket
new Nokia donut spare
etc., etc. etc. ad nauseum
The GMC Safari was literally PACKED full. For $500. Now, who called me crazy for making that drive? I haven't priced out all these parts, but I would say they are worth a few bucks more than that, no? The result of my good car-ma, I am certain.
I can't wait to get my car back from my mechanic's shop so I can strip my interior out and get to work installing the Aero parts. I’ll update with pix when I am finished.
Have a good 4th everybody, and DRIVE SAFELY!
