Politically (and mechanically)incorrect A/C recharging

I replaced a hose in the A/C from the compressor to the condensor. Local shops wanted $125-150+ to recharge the system. Being the cheap b******* that I am, this is what I did.
I let out almost all the refrigerant through the high and low schraeder valves (this is the politically incorrect part). Then I loosened all the connections on the old hose. I put some refrigerant in the new hose and sealed it up. Quickly, I disconnected the old hose, put a shot of refrigerant in the compressor and condensor then quickly put the new hose on in order to let as little air in the system as possible.
I recharged the system. Then I let the refrigerant almost completely out two times and refilled it(about 600g refrigerant)to get as much new refrigerant in there as possible, A/C works great.
Did I damage the A/C system? Should I bite the bullet and have the system evacuated and recharged professionally?
