My wife's 9000 had the same symptoms. I checked all the vacuum lines as well but everything was OK. It turned out to be a bad gasket between the inlet manifold and the cylinderhead. Very easy to diagnose: spray some brake cleaner fluid in the area of the inlet manifold near the engine and the engine will surge a little bit. Idle was rough with the automatic transmission in neutral but was OK in D.
