Those of you who responded to the problem of my 94cde a month or so ago which has persistent low oil pressure, I think I found out why. This is the 9k I converted to 5 speed almost a year ago. When it happened, it was in the second stage (rinse cycle) of AutoRx treatment getting rid of sludge in the engine. It completed the first stage with some sludge removed in 2,500 miles.
Having completed my other project, the 95 525i, I can't wait to get to the bottom of this one. And I was ready to take the drive train apart again. Matter of fact, I moved the 94cde into the garage tonight, drained coolant, loosened the belt and have prepared to take tomorrow off to battle this one out.
Fortunately I won't have to, I hope. After I removed the front passenger side wheel cover and loosened the belt, this is what I saw. The big circlip for the oil pump cover is loose behind the harmonic balancer staring at me. LOL, that is why the oil pump cannot get the oil pressure up no matter how hard it tried. There is a leak in the system. No wonder I was seeing oil around the bottom of the engine passenger side too. I initially thought it leaked from the sump pan joint. But I was almost sure I did a very good job sealing it.
I am almost positive this is the problem. I will update again after I put the circlip back.
