So here's the proper procedure for installing a fuel pump:
1. Remove fuel pump
2. Disassemble fuel pump assembly. Remove pump insert
3. Install new insert and reassemble pump assembly
4. Reinstall fuel pump in car, connect fuel lines
5. Start car
6. Car does not start
7. Must be crank sensor
8. Remove right wheel well liner
9. Compress serpentine tensioner and remove belt from crank pulley
10. Remove crank pulley bolt and pulley
11. Remove crank sensor element from block by removing screws and clips
12. Working from above, remove top engine mount and bracket. Move alternator out of the way.
13. Remove entire intake manifold
14. Disconnect crank sensor connector from harness. Remove sensor from car
15. Install new crank sensor. Reverse of removal.
16. Reinstall top motor mount and reposition alternator. Reinstall intake manifold
17. Reinstall crank pulley and bolt. Rethread serpentine belt and retension
18. Start car
19. Start car
20. Start...car....dammit
21. Car does not start
22. Test ignition system for spark
23. Test wiring at fuel pump again
24. Remove aquarium cover and check grounds to ECU
25. Start car
26. Start car
27. Start...car...dammit
28. Car does not start
29. Remove fuel pump assembly from fuel tank. Disassemble
30. Remove protective plastic shipping cap (bright red and immediately in front of you) from intake of new fuel pump insert. You forgot to do this the first time
31. Reassemble and install the fuel pump assembly
32. Start car
33. Car runs immediately
34. D'oh.
