According to the EPC the valve body is the same in 98 as in other years.
I did the springs on my dad's car and it was quite obvious when I took the control body out. You have to look for the cover with the shape that is shown in the picture. When you lift the valve body away from the transmission it is on the bottom and the plate you have to take off is on the front side if I remember correctly. The once the cover is removed the springs can be taken out easily. The housing as shown between step 9 and 10 is stuck to the bottom of the valve body so the springs are effectively outside the main valve body.
