How much boost are you getting during detonation? How have you set the base boost?
The APC controls detonation (knock) by dialing to back boost. But it can dial back only so far. If the base boost level has been set too high, you may still be getting too much boost for the available octane, and you get knock.
Even if base boost is set right, it still may be too much boost. What octane are you running? How do the spark plugs look? If you're running lean, hot running can make the engine more likely to knock. Is the vacuum advance/retard working properly in the distributor, and the one-way valve working OK?
