Hey everyone---I'm sure that a lot of people have been frustrated with TCS on these cars, because I know I sure have been. Just got my 1993 9000 Aero back from a Saab Specialist after going in the shop 5 times in one month. Here are some things to check/have people check before you go spending money on wasteful safety runoff valves or non-return valves.
- CHECK YOUR HOSES (you'd be surprised how little it takes to agitate the system from a hose, switch to silicone hoses, http://www.hosetechniques.com, 3.5 mm)
- CONNECTING PINS ON THROTTLE BODY HARNESS (if the car has gold and the TB has silver connectors, you'll get a bad connection. These can be changed out very inexpensively)
- PEDAL POTENTIOMETER (this is what ultimately fixed my car)
- RECALIBRATION OF TCS/ETS SYSTEM (this helps keep things in check, do it often)
- the obvious safety valve, non return valve (on false firewall). these are common, but didnt work for me.
- THROTTLE BODY---expensive, yes, but you can get one for $300 remanufactured from Ultima, Ltd. http://www.ultimaltd.com/throttlebody.htm
- Car's ECU can be a culprit sometimes, also ABS ECU
- really, anything can set the stupid LHM off, so just be insightful about it, and don't go buying parts until you know what you need.
GOOD LUCK SAABERS!!!
