Hi Kim,
I think yours has an ABS brake system. As you mentioned that you don't see a big vaccum connected to the master cylinder. What you see below the master cylinder is the accumulator (spherical shaped). And you see a fuse box adjascent to the brake fluid reservoir. That's an ABS fuse box. I think on the instrument panel you would not see ABS light but an Antilock light. If I'm right, why don't you clean the ABS brain (located in the aquarium - driver side) connector with an electrical cleaner. As I said in my earlier post, we fixed my friend's brake that way. Brake pedal was also hard to press as if no assist from the accumulator. I read this on previous posts which helped us fixed the problem. Do that first before replacing some parts.
