Three weeks ago, I replaced a completely worn VR in my 1990 9Ks. It did the trick, and I was back up to 13.3 - 13.9 volts during regular driving. Then, a few days ago, I started the car up and was driving home from work. It cranked at 10.5, then went to 11.4 for the duration of the 5 mile trip. The battery light came on faintly and stayed dimly lit. The car now shows 11.4 or less every time I've turned it on.
What are the odds of the new Bosch VR crapping out after only three weeks of use? I've read the archived posts and did check both my positive and negative battery cables (both are good), and I'm sort of loathe to replace the entire alternator. Is there anything else in the alternator besides shot diodes that is suspect?
Many thanks in advance.
