Early or late ABS? TCS car?
Early cars (MKII ABS/early TCS): On the fronts, the old-fashioned non-powered brake bleeding procedures work fine. On the rears, you'll need an assistant to turn the key on/power up the ABS pumps, while you get to open the bleeder valve and flush it thataway.
Later cars (MK IV), IIRC, that system bleeds normally, so "normal" brake bleeding procedures (bleeder cup, or ultra low-budget--container with brake fluid and plastic hose) should get the job done.
The only time I've needed a power bleeder is to pressurize the clutch on the 9000s I've owned (four of 'em, own one now) and the 9-5 I own.
