1998 CSE (AERO) hits fuel cutoff, normal?

My 1998 CSE, which I understand has the AERO ECU and HP output, hits fuel cutoff under hard acceleration. Turbo needle goes deep into the red. My wife's 1997 CSE also permits the needle to go deep into the red, but no fuel cutoff (the 1998 is significantly more swift).
Question to AERO and 1998 CSE owners. Is this "normal"? Should I suspect the BCV? ECU?
meanwhile, I'll drive more gently.
