The only downside about going the 9-5 route is the lack of the hatchback body. Other than that, you'll positively LOVE the 9-5, even in the V6 flavor.
I regretted selling my 9k Aero years back to buy a new 9-5 Aero (sedan, not the combi) that I went back on the hunt for another early 9k as beater car/pickup truck substitute. I eventually prevailed and now have an '86 9000T in the garage next to the Aero.
On the 9-5, make certain that the timing belts were changed on proper intervals and ALSO have the tensioner and pulleys changed if they've not been done before.
Enjoy!
