The Aero I bought across the country has finally arrived but now I'm starting to work out some issues. I had posted on 11/26 under the subject "1996 Alarm / No Start Problem" that the alarm appeared hosed and had immobilized the car. Per Ari's post I've jumpered 9 to 21 and 8 to 20. The starter motor runs but the engine does not fire up.
I actually disconnected the connector from the alarm module and have applied the jumpers with the connector still disconnected. Do I need connect the connector to the alarm module or can I leave it detached?
On my other 9000's when I turn the ignition switch to ON I can hear the BPC/APC buzzing. It is not buzzing on this car so it appears engine management is not activated. That's why I ask if the alarm connector needs to be connected.
Assuming the connector can be left detached from the alarm module and there are only the 2 jumpers necessary, what else might keep the engine management from powering up the BPC/APC?
More information. I had a friend of mine take possession of the car for me. After he drove it to his house the battery died so he replaced it with a used one that "did not work". He then replaced it with a new one. What would happen if the polarity of the first battery replacement was reversed? The reason I ask is the alarm module appears hosed, the engine won't fire up, the clock doesn't work, and the radio doesn't work.
I plan to swap ECU's with my 1998 as I continue to diagnose the problem but I am really hoping someone writes back and say the ECU is designed to not be damaged by reverse polarity.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
