Because both manual and auto 2.3 FPT cars share the same maximum power at 200 bhp(leaving aside the 1998 cars with aero spec engines) I would guess that cutting the orange wire to pin 14 simply reverts the auto cars to the manual power/torque curves. So, mid-range acceleration would be better (more torque) but maximum speed won't alter (same max power). Does that make sense?
When I did this on my old CSE it was certainly faster in real terms so yes, I reckon it works. I'd recommend saabetized to fit a 3" downpipe & exhaust and/or buy a decent ECU but clearly those costs money and "the snip" costs nothing and is reversible.
