Hi,
Assuming that you *marked* one of the links on the cam chain where it aligns to the cam sprocket (there is a line on the side away from the pistons, your left with your knees on the bumper) you start with the tensioner completely removed. I like to put a small zip tie thru the sproket and use it to hold chain in place, put the *other* sprocket and put the bolt in hand snug, then fit the zip tied unit on, and then fit the chain to the first sprocket. if you count the holes in the chain (not the link or side or riviets - the holes) you will have exactly 16 from the aligned tooth in on sproket to the other (meaning where the line on the sprocket which will have a tooth filling the first hole, 14 empties, and the 16th hole filled with the aligned tooth from the other sprocket). You may have spring tension/loading from the camshafts as the valve springs push followers which push the offset cam lobs. You can put a 18 or 17 or 16 mm open ended quality wrench on the cam shaft to align it the 5-10 degrees needed to get it aligned to do the chain tango, but NO more.
My buddy told me about 16 holes (links) in the chain, 16 valve cover bolts, 16 valves... It makes it easier for me to remember at my advanced age...
