Brick:
I had a rear door latch works apart and put it back together wrong the first time. Till I fixed it I had the problem that the door showed unlatched I believe it was, all the time.
So I got to understand this all pretty well.
If you take the three big Torx-head screws out of the external latch plate and remove that all from the door, you have to be careful on reinstalling it.
There are two pegs that come out of it, one to open and close the latch "tongue" I'm calling it, swivelling through its arc, and a skinnier one that goes inside the door thru a little arc and fits inside a notch in a nylon swinging arm, with a tiny magnet on the end of it.
That magnet tells the blue reed switch on the interior part of the latch works that the door is unlatched, or latched.
As I recall, to do this right on reattaching the outer part of the latch, you should have the latch tongue in its latched position, swung in and trigged. Then the pin fits easily into the slot in the nylon arm.
You should be able to see this by peering into the door interior as you put the outer latch plate into position, and maybe move the nylon arm into proper position by reaching in.
(Or maybe you have a problem with the wiring to that blue switch, not plugged in or broken?)
