Replacing it is straightforward. With the car off, stomp the pedal for a good bunch of times (20+) to bleed off all the pressure. Wrap the base of the old one with towels/rag to soak up any leaky brake fluid (don't get it on the paint!) and unscrew it. Stick on the new one.
Some folks have said that they haven't bled the system afterwards, and all was well. I'd recommend a system bleed, but YMMV.
Do some searches on this - there is a lower cost approach using a GM part (Oldsmobile, I think)
I'd try the accumulator, and leave the pressure switch alone for now.
