I never officially did, though I had not ever tried since having it fail twice in 1 month 2 years ago. I continued to drive that car with no horn, or canceling turn signals. That car is done now. I should mention that the previous owner of that car originally installed that 9-5 steering wheel and it was on there successfully for quite some time before my original clockspring failed. I now do not believe the 9-5 steering wheel is what caused it to fail and I probably did something incorrectly when I tried to replace it.
clocksprings changed some time around 1993 or 1994 I believe. I have one of each and the older design seems more robust but I cannot confirm if they are interchangeable.
The spline count is definitely the same on the MY95 and up steering wheel. I cannot confirm yet if the older steering wheels are the same as the MY95+
