I have heard of this, and it is probably true, though I can't understand how a dealer could have so much better of a sidewinder key cutting machine than a decent locksmith willing to invest in the best tools available.
Whether or not that is the material of the key is unique, nobody can argue that a duplicate is not as good as a key cut from code.
I once had a mercedes dealer order keys for a car and they were made from the car's VIN in Germany and mailed to the dealer for me to pick up. If that's how saab dealers do offer duplicate keys, then it probably is better.
