I just today, dry fitted the OEM trailer hitch from my '90 9000 CDT to my 97 Aero. It looked like it would bolt right up, at least the lower two bolts on the bumper were good. I assume that the third one at the top will be OK too. The two bolt holes in the bottom that line up with the bracket on the car were also right on. Why do you think you need an adapter? Where is yours not lining up? I still need to sand blast and repaint mine before I install it for good. Let me know how you make out.
