I'm on Motor Pool Duty, too. We have an A6 4.2 and a TT QR 225. Both WONDERFUL cars. Just picked up the Aero last Saturday as a project car and am really enjoying it. It's the 27th Saab in our family (I'm the Black Sheep with the Audis) and is a rescue mission.
Sorry to hear that you're having to work through some niggles on the A4. Indeed, the Saab is a much simpler car. I just did the major service on the A6 and was amazed at the complexity and thoroughness of the engineering of it. I did a BUNCH of might-as-wells while I was in there and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
I'm going to have to do the control arms on the A6 too, eventually (bushes are cracking). The TT is an incredible little car to drive. I have a few little things to do on it, too, but, it just runs like a Swiss watch and is very durable.
Cheers.
