Depends on what's in there now Posted by Bill Homer [Email] (#3427) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Bill Homer) on Tue, 11 Aug 2009 13:31:36 In Reply to: Two gallons of 50/50 in 93 9000 CDE Radiator right?, Lee Harris, Tue, 11 Aug 2009 11:08:29 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Capacity of the 9000 cooling system is ~10 quarts, more than the two gallons that you are contemplating. What is in there now? Is it time for a flush and refill (more than two years since this was done)?
What I like to do is thoroughly flush the sytem several times with water, drain it as well as possible; now add FIVE QUARTS (1.25 gallon bottles) of FULL STRENGTH coolant, then top up with purified water - this will only take a quart or two of water. After flushing, a significant amount of water will remain trapped in the system and pouring in a 50/50 mix will not provide a 50/50 mix when you are done.
