The detents for that are in the shifter mechanism itself in the center console. There are a number of things in that mechanism that could have come adrift. The mechanism is pretty accessable, and a visual inspection might tell a lot.
The process is to remove the horizontal panel under the shifter and look ing.
Lift the parking brake, and at the rear of the shifter panel, you'll see a small screw. Remove it. At the front of the panel, just forward of the shifter, is a little plug - pop it out, and remove that screw. Pull the shifter all the way back (3), and remove the two screws on the back of the handle (they face forward). Then lift the handle off with a little tug.
To remove the panel, slide the shaft (what's left after you pull off the handle) back, and lift the front of the panel. Then slide the handle foward (park) - the PNRD123 plastic will slide forward - that's OK. Once it's clear, you can lift the rear of the panel a little. Don't yank it off - there is a bulb (with wires) stuck in the side. Pull the bulb out, and the panel comes free. You can now look into the mechanism.
